Google to Roll out Its Mobile First Indexing at the Speed of a Turtle

One of the main pain points about mobile first indexing from SMX East held on 25th October 2107, was how and when will Google’s latest discovery will roll out. Google Webmaster Trends Analyst Gary Illyes told the spectators that the Mobile First indexing has started to roll out slowly for few sites depending upon the hosting level of each site, which means it starkly depends on the www.xyz.com vs. m.xyz.com vs. abc.xyz.com.

The number of websites that have already switched to mobile first indexing is still blurry and when asked the Google Webmaster Trend Analyst what he wants the audience to take from the words “few sites”, he said the ones that are following Google Indexing rules. So, now we can imagine how long that list is going to be.

Gary asked the audience to remain calm about the rollout since Google is still testing the latest discovery and will roll it out at the speed of a turtle. Plus, he is not sure, neither the team, I guess, about the exact launch time; Mobile First Indexing will be fully implemented and will be a part of Google’s list of ranking algorithms.

In order to judge whether a site is ready to be switched over, Google has listed down some “classifiers” to make sure a site is somewhat ready for a mobile-first index. These classifiers set up by Google determine how compatible the desktop site is to the mobile site based on the content, links, multimedia, schema markup and so on.
